”What kind of music would a plant make? Probably not Progressive Folk, but VIMMA does it anyway. Or is it Ethno Punk? Don’t know, don’t care. What we should care about is plants. Try to list as many as you can. When you run out, go to the nearest forest and look around you. Smell the forest and let the forest smell you. How could you save the world from environmental crisis if you don’t even know what the environment consists of? Know your plants, you idiots <3”
VIMMA is a young ensemble from Helsinki combining Nordic Folk and Progressive Rock. VIMMA creates a massive sound with specific arrangements while also leaving space for artistic interpretation and improvisation. Topical lyrics and spoken word poetry bring extra vitality and excitement to the energetic music.
”VIMMA” is a Finnish word for furor and excitement. VIMMA won ”Newcomer Of The Year” at the Finnish Ethno Awards in 2020. In October 2019 VIMMA released a debut album Meri ja avaruus (Space and Ocean, Eclipse Music), and the second album is in the making. In the late spring and summer of 2021, VIMMA will release ten teasers from the upcoming LP.
”Unapologetic, I like it.”
– Mari Koppinen, Helsingin Sanomat, 2019*
”With the force of Folk, Progressive Rock, Pop and God-knows-what, VIMMA struck itself into my memory circuits like a sledge-hammer.”
– Mika Roth, Desibeli, 2019*
“The philosophy of progressive rock seems like a world close to Vimma, but you can definitely hear the taste of folk music, classical music, funk and jazz.”
– Tove Dropsjöbacka, FMQ, 2019
